People begin their own home businesses in their basements, their kitchens and their living rooms every day. They usually begin on a shoestring, and sales help them grow. However, to properly grow your brand, you need a marketing strategy. You’ve already hit all your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter and Google +. However, the more social media on which you advertise, the more consumers you will reach. How about using commercial product photography to use on Pinterest and all the other social media?
You can make the most alluring perfumes or soaps, the prettiest hand-made clothing or the world’s best pound cake, but if people don’t know what it looks like, how can they judge? They need to see the designs on the soaps, an offer of a free scratch ‘n’ sniff for the perfume, and they need to see how the clothing looks on a mannequin or your daughter modeling it. Commercial product photography not only gets the word out, it piques the interest of potential consumers.
Color and arrangement in a photograph makes people remember something. Just a picture of pretty soaps arranged against a colorful towel is nice, but will a potential customer remember it? Maybe, but if the soaps were arranged against a garden tub surrounded by tropical plants, they’d remember that. Perhaps the clothing could be photographed on the model while she’s dancing on the beach with a handsome guy. The pound cake would look good enough to eat if a potential customer saw a picture of a football team enjoying it or a group of girls out on the town for girls’ night out.
It’s not just content that makes commercial product photography grow your brand. Timing has a lot to do with it. Perfumes and soaps are good all year round, but what if you produce arts and crafts? What about the home business owner who makes jewelry or makes dishes constructed from foods grown in her/his own garden? These items may not necessarily be seasonal, but they could be showcased during a pertinent season. For example, the gardener could use photographs to show potential customers how s/he constructs dishes around the fall holidays. The jewelry maker could make use of photography to sell the pieces on her own website as well as on social media. Birthdays, Mother’s and Father’s Days, just because you can days and the holidays could be targeted in a marketing strategy.
Your business needs a photographer with an eye to composition and timing. It also needs a photographer that will photograph to your design for a brochure or product catalog. You need a photographer that will work with you wherever you are located and however you intend the pictures used. Advertising photography is good for your brand, but do you want to retail your work? You’ll need pictures of different facets of your work, so your potential customers will see how your product is made, your obvious enjoyment in making it and the happy customers receiving it. These, too, are important aspects of growing your brand.
