Here at Alanna Rose Photography we have done hundreds of photographs for Amazon and other marketplace listings. I’ve compiled together at some of our best practices.

1. Your main image. This is the first image that appears when you view your listing. It is by far the most important product image. Your main image must be on 255 White, sometimes known as “knock out”. Your product must fill up at least 85% of your image space. We recommend that your image be sized large enough to be “zoomable". To do this it must be over 1000 pixels on each side. Amazon sellers say that this will increase your conversion rates.

The best man images that we have found show your product, not in packaging, large and clean. If your product has accessories, be sure to display those as well in the main image.

2. Secondary images. Amazon gives you a total of eight secondary images. These are the images that you see when you click through to the product listing. You will see them underneath the main image usually to the left. Use these secondary images to show different aspects of your product. We highly recommend that one of your images is an action shot of your product. This can be a lifestyle or functional. The main point here is that it is the product actually being used as it is intended to be by the customer.

If you're selling something that comes in sizes, we sometimes recommend that one of your secondary images be a sizing chart. This takes the guesswork away from the customer when choosing the proper size of your product.

We also suggest that one of your secondary images be of the product and its packaging. This shows your customers what they can expect when they receive their products.

For some brands, it is super important to have one of the secondary pictures be a close-up of the brand-name. This is to show people that the product is different than others because of the brand. Brands become trusted by consumers and tell people that it is a legitimate company behind the product.
